What are Umaku Nureru LABO?
As the manufacturer and distributor of Umaku Nureru plaster (shikkui), Nippon Plaster Co., Ltd. also operates showrooms called Umaku Nureru LABO in Tokyo and Kyoto. At these facilities, we regularly offer Shikkui DIY Classes to our customers, giving them hands-on experience of applying shikkui.
Located in Tokyo and Kyoto, the Umaku Nureru LABO are shikkui “laboratories” operated by Nippon Plaster Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of shikkui for DIY. As a shikkui manufacturer, we offer a wide variety of products, from plasters for professionals to products for DIY use. We established the Umaku Nureru LABO from a desire to make more people aware of the benefits of shikkui, and to enrich their daily lives by encouraging them to live their lives with plaster.
The Umaku Nureru LABO consist of two main sections. The first is a space that allows visitors to feel what it is like to live with shikkui . The walls and ceilings of these showrooms are plastered with shikkui , allowing you to feel the unique comfort and texture of the material. The other section is for hands-on experience of applying shikkui . Here, visitors can experience using Umaku Nureru for DIY work while receiving instruction from our specialist staff. The Umaku Nureru LABO offer spaces which deliver all the varied appeal of shikkui.

The walls and ceilings of the showrooms in the LABO facilities are coated with Umaku Nureru, allowing you to feel what it is like to live in spaces finished with shikkui. You can touch the walls and feel the texture of shikkui, offering the perfect introduction to your new life with shikkui.

You can experience using shikkui for DIY!
Umaku Nureru shikkui plaster is a dense material, allowing you to apply it without making a mess even if you have never used plaster before. For a variety of reasons, for example because they need to be blended and they are also very soft, conventional shikkui products are difficult for non-professional users to apply. Because of this, in most cases it has been necessary to rely on professionals to apply plaster. But Umaku Nureru is different! Developed especially for DIY lovers, Umaku Nureru lets you enjoy the experience of plastering that wall yourself!

Surfaces to be plastered are as varied as our many customers. At our Umaku Nureru LABO, we offer a wide range of surfaces for DIY classes, including wallpaper (vinyl cloth), old walls, gypsum boards, and plywood boards. Visitors are able to choose the one that matches the surface they intend to plaster at home.

We hold a variety of special events on a regular basis!
On Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays, we hold special shikkui events that are open to everyone. We intend to go on holding these enjoyable shikkui-related DIY events, as well as fulfilling the LABOs’ everyday mission of allowing visitors to experience the pleasure of shikkui.

Floor 2: Shikkui showrooms
On the second floor of the Tokyo Umaku Nureru LABO, you will find shikkui showrooms with walls and ceilings coated with Umaku Nureru . Touching the surfaces in these showrooms allows you to experience the texture of shikkui , while feeling the special warmth that is unique to this natural material.
Floor 3: Shikkui DIY room
The third floor of the Tokyo Umaku Nureru LABO is a “Shikkui DIY Room,” where you can experience applying Umaku Nureru. Tell us what surface you intend to plaster at home, and enjoy a hands-on experience of applying shikkui on the same surface, guided by our specialist staff.
Shikkui DIY Classes
1. Shikkui DIY Classes: Beginners’ Class
This class is intended for customers who are interested in Umaku Nureru, the shikkui plaster that is easy for anyone to apply. Aimed at inspiring a desire to use shikkui, the class allows participants to enjoy learning basic methods of applying the material, with careful instruction from our specialist staff. This class is offered on weekdays, and reservations are required.
Approx. 90-minute class
2. Shikkui DIY Classes: Practical Class
In this class, our specialist staff provide detailed instruction in techniques for applying shikkui to customers who intend to use Umaku Nureru at home. Aimed at making customers ready to use shikkui, in addition to practical training, the class also offers a range of lectures, including an introduction to the functionality of shikkui. This class is offered on weekdays, and reservations are required.

At Umaku Nureru LABO, we hold special events on a regular basis.
